Romano Prodi

Politician and economist

He studied law at the Università Cattolica in Milan. He was Professor of Economics and Industrial Policy at the University of Bologna from 1971 to 1995 and Visiting Professor at Harvard University and Stanford Research Institute in 1974. In the 70s and 80s he chaired the publishing company Il Mulino, he was Minister of Industry and he was President of IRI. From 1996 to 1998 he was President of the Council of the Italian Republic and head of the Coalition of “L’Ulivo”. From 1999 to 2005 he was President of the European Commission and from 2006 to 2008 again President of the Council of the Italian Republic. Until 2010 he was appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, President of the United Nations-African Union High-level Panel for Peacekeeping in Africa. He was Professor at-large at Brown University (USA) and was appointed Professor at CEIBS (China Europe International Business School) in Shanghai and is now a Member of the Board. During his long academic and political career, Romano Prodi has received numerous awards and honorary degrees. He was a guest of the Liberevento Festival in 2022 with the book “L’Europa” (Ed. Rizzoli Illustrati).
