In 1998 she began her experience as a political journalist as an author and correspondent for TeleCamere, a program of which she also became the presenter in 2006. The following year she returned as an author in Mi manda Raitre. Since 2010 she has been the author of the first edition of Agorà for which she followed, as a correspondent, the French presidential elections in 2012 and the American ones in 2014. In 2016 she was the creator and presenter of Tutti salvi per amore, two reportages that aim to tell the contemporary world through love ties. From 2017 to 2020 he returned to the conduction of Agorà. In September 2020 she made her debut as a presenter on Rai 1 of the program Today is another day, of which she is also the author.
On June 30th 2023, the last episode of Today is another day airs, the talk show is in fact canceled and replaced by a new project hosted by Caterina Balivo. During the credits, which for the last time close the broadcast, Serena Bortone thanks her loyal audience, the cast and the famous stable affections of the program. Subsequently, in autumn 2023, the presenter moves to a very different time slot, that of prime time on the weekend, with a new project, entitled Chesarà. It is a talk show for Rai 3 in which he once again has the opportunity to dialogue with illustrious personalities and host musical performances. She was a guest of the Liberevento Cultural Festival in 2024 with her book “A te vicino così dolce” (Ed. Rizzoli).
