Author of detective stories and noir, he creates a happy mixture of genres in his novels, paying particular attention to historical reconstruction and socio-cultural aspects. He has published a detective trilogy, set in the fascist era (Carta bianca, 1990; The Turbid Summer, 1991; Via delle Oche, 1996) and various narrative series (Armed Falange, 1993; The Day of the Wolf, 1994; Lupo mannaro, 1994; Almost blue, 1997; One day after another, 2000; Italian Intrigue, 2017). Among his other more recent works: Mortal Sin and Ships to Lose; both in 2020, The Blackest Winter and The Incredible, Before Breakfast; in 2021, Black as blood. History of Murder from the French Revolution to the Present Day (with M. Picozzi) and Léon; Bell’Abissina (2022); Black as terror. History of Murder in the Middle Ages (with M. Picozzi, 2023); At least you (2025). Journalist, author of scripts for comics and television, L. has also conceived and conducted the numerous series of the television program Blu notte-Misteri italiani, in which unsolved crimes and controversial episodes of Italian history are analyzed. From 2014 to 2015 he hosted the program Muse Inquietanti on Sky Arte, on the mysteries related to the lives of some of the great protagonists of art, since 2014 he has hosted the program La tredicesima ora on RaiTre in prime time and since 2015 Profondo nero on Crime + Investigation. In 2011 he made his film directorial debut directing The Island of the Fallen Angel based on one of his novels, presented at the 2012 Rome International Film Festival. He has been a guest of the Liberevento Cultural Festival in 2025 with the book “Almeno tu” (Ed. Einaudi).
