Walter Veltroni

Politician, journalist, writer and director

Certainly known to most for his past political role, specifically as national secretary of the Democratic Party, mayor of Rome, candidate for prime minister, vice president of the Council and minister of cultural heritage, Walter Veltroni is also a film director. He has never hidden his love for cinema, as a spectator and as an author and for writing. Probably a love partly due to his father, Vittorio Veltroni, EIAR radio commentator and then director of RAI, who passed away when his son was just one year old. Commitment to cinema
Before becoming an author for the seventh art, Walter Veltroni was interested in everything related to cinema to ensure that it could be enjoyed by an increasingly wide audience.
As mentioned, the Roman politician, writer, journalist and director, born in 1955, has always shown a strong interest in the cinematographic-television field, which he has also had the opportunity to deal with in his non-fiction works.
An interest born from an early age and which began to emerge as early as 1973 when Veltroni obtained the diploma of upper secondary education issued by the State Institute for Cinematography and Television. Another important date in his life marked by cinema is 2006 when he became the promoter of “CINEMA. Rome International Film Festival”, the capital’s film festival, now internationally recognized and which every year boasts numerous and important guests, whose first edition was held in October of the same year. Writer of numerous essays and novels, he was a guest of the Liberevento Cultural Festival in 2024 with the book “La condanna” (Ed. Rizzoli).
