ANTONIO CAPRARICA presents “LA REGINA IMPERATRICE”

Sperling & Kupfer 2020 | Moderator Marco Loi

London, 1870. Thirty-three years have passed since Victoria took the throne, in popular jubilation: an eighteen-year-old not beautiful, but lively, intelligent and above all strong-willed. The qualities of her that of her, together with the support of her beloved husband Albert, made her an admired sovereign for a long time. Who would recognize her today in the squat lady bundled up in black mourning robes, who since Albert’s death has lived in retreat on the Isle of Wight or in Scotland, and she stubbornly refuses to show herself to her people and attend ceremonies in the capital? Thus, while the son and heir Bertie sinks the prestige of the Crown into vices, the throne falters under the blows of the Republicans. Will this be the epilogue of a kingdom that began magnificently?
