Umberto Pelizzari

Freediver and academic

He is an Italian freediver, TV presenter and academic. He has set world records in all freediving disciplines. In 1999, on October 24th, with the technical support of Nave Anteo (Italian Navy), he ventured into a historic enterprise in the world of diving and medicine: -150 meters in variable weight No Limits. In 2000 he was involved in the making of the IMAX film entitled Ocean Men, which tells his story in parallel with that of Pipìn. In October 2001 he won the gold medal at the Apnea World Championship for Nations. He is currently engaged as a journalist and television reporter in science and marine environment programs. He created the Apnea Academy school for the dissemination, teaching and research of diving apnea worldwide. He collaborates as a trainer and teacher for the G.I.S. (Special Intervention Group), the elite unit of the Carabinieri. Since 2006 he has been a lecturer at the Scuola Normale Superiore S. Anna in Pisa, at the second level Master of Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine. Since September 2013 he is Professor of the master in underwater and hyperbaric medicine of the University Consortium of Trapani, teaching center of the University of Palermo.
